The sequel to Glamour Girls focuses on the international sex workers trade. It has many of the same themes as the original film but expands on them. For example, a bathroom scene with an outrageous performance by Eucharia Anunobi, dubbed “Nigeria’s Sharon Stones”, is one of the highlights of the film.
The plot follows a group of women who try to survive and prosper in the glamorous world of escorts. The film is directed by Bunmi Ajakaiye and produced by PlayNetwork Studios in partnership with Netflix. The film is a two-hour drama with a strong cast. The lead actors include Nse Ikpe-Etim and Segilola Ogidan, and actresses Joselyn Dumas and Sharon Ooja.
This movie was a big hit in Nigeria, where the characters were played by veteran Nollywood actors. However, the film deviated from the original plot a few times. While most movies about prostitution focus on the glitz and glamour associated with the industry, the original movie shows the suffering, desperation and social rejection that accompany prostitution. It also focuses on the girls’ desire to fit into the system and make sugar daddies in order to get rich.
The film surpassed expectations, and has been the fastest-growing movie on Netflix in Nigeria. It also reached the Top 10 in over 20 countries in two days, including South Africa, the UAE, Portugal, Kenya, and Venezuela. It has already surpassed 100 million watch hours globally, and has received positive reviews from critics.
Another major plot element in Glamour Girls is prostitution. Doris, who has married and moved abroad, has become a procurer trafficking young girls to Italy. Eventually, Sandra finds herself in a difficult situation when her former boss Esiri terminates their arrangement and she is forced to travel to Italy as a prostitute. However, she finds that the money she earns is being funneled to her new boss, Maureen. In the meantime, Sandra becomes a victim of exploitation and brutality.
Another plotline in Glamour Girls 2 is that of the stripper, Emma. After being fired from her strip club job, she tries to reclaim her job as a high-end call girl. She is initially rejected, but after convincing Donna of her potential, she finally gets accepted. While Donna’s clients reject Emma, she gets to work with Donna’s firm. During the course of the movie, she tries to turn her into a city girl and eventually scores a major client.
